The Grand D'Angkor, originally built in 1932 and renovated by the Raffles folks in 1995, is once again THE place to stay in Siem Riep. Facing the royal palace across a well-manicured park, the Grand enjoys a convenient location between the town of Siem Riep and the temples of Angkor. The assumption is that guests come to visit the temples NOT the town of Siem Riep, so meals at the hotel are compulsary. The Grand is undoubtedly the best place to lay your head in Siem Riep, but no bargain compared to other colonial restorations in Indochina. A few nights here will empty the pockets of all but the most well-heeled! For everyone else we recommend saving your money and splurging for a few nights at Le Royal in Phnom Penh, Settha Palace in Vientiane or the Metropole in Hanoi.
